Adventure!

"It's a dangerous business going out your door
You step onto the road and if you don't keep your feet,
There's no knowing where you might be swept off too."
---- Bilbo Baggins (I think) (I'm pretty sure though)

Whoo-hoo! I went on an adventure today, A real one and not a metaphorical one! Which is quite a feet since I usually do the other type but No I went on a mini, domestic riveting adventure with John and I had a wonderful time. You see, when I'm on my own I don't usually explore much, I mean, it took me almost a half a year before I even ventured out of our new house. With other people I'm generally very adventurous and by other people, I mean John because there is no one I love risking it a little more than her. But it's always been like that, together we explored every inch of the last property and now we are pushing the limits in this park.

Those days when we get out of the house and look around, measure and hop over fences are certainly my favorite days since i don't usually explore with the proper attitude with anybody else but John. Simon is usually with me when it comes to chickening out just when things get interesting but we tend to experience the same sensations at the same time. When I'm exploring with John not only can I take the role of leader but I also don't mind going much further (Distance speaking) than I usually would. Life is always a hundred times better when you can do some old fashioned adventuring with your best friend ans speaking of "Old fashioned adventuring" today has got me thinking about everyone's favorite adventurer (Or at least one of the top five adventurers), the amazing Bilbo Baggins (You thought I was going to say Steve Rogers because I said "Old Fashioned" Didn't you, well Ha!)

Granted the one thing that makes Bilbo so different from the general adventurer is the fact that he, of all people (or Hobbits) hated adventure, he wanted no part in the shenanigans that most people wait their entire lives for but never get. Luckily for him fate came and gave him a good kick in the arse, the rest of us have to work for that opportunity. He, like most Hobbits wanted nothing more than to enjoy his quaint little life in the Shire surrounded by busy neighbors and gossip. He liked the fact that nothing ever happened in his life and he planned to keep it that way until Gandalf showed up and turned his world upside down. However, that was the beginning, throughout the rest of his adventure with Gandalf and the many creatures he met along the way, he grew as a person and during the most intense moments in their quest he showed the many qualities that made him so unique and lovable. he became somebody that everybody wants to emulate in their lives, he was brave, resourceful, and just all around useful to the team.

But the thing is, he would have never been given the opportunity to express those sought after traits had he not gone on the fantastic and daring adventure that he did. he shined most in situations of dire need and I think that's exactly what draws other people to the thrill of adventure, we could do with out the discomfort and the risk, what we really want to find out is what quality of ours shines when we are put in to a desperate situation. You can guess and most people spend their entire lives guessing how they might react in a dire situation, but in all reality, it's impossible to tell since even Bilbo was completely wrong and totally underestimated his own talents for adventure and heroism .  We all want to be Bilbo in those extraordinary situations and hopefully most of us are but honestly some will probably be cowards or even Villains, it's impossible to tell. But I hope that I would shine like Bilbo in an adventure, like everyone but i won't keep myself up worrying about it because no one can ever tell until it happens.

So here's a post at the end of an adventurous day, more importantly though, it's not a Skimmons fanfiction (Hopefully that will come a little later) I hope that every time you have a new opportunity that you think about Bilbo Baggins and then take it because it's worth the risk to see what you have hidden under your mundane lives.

"You didn't see anything" Skimmons Fanfiction

Okay, I know that I need to post something other than Skimmons fanfictions so I'll work on that today, maybe even this morning. Anyway, here's my latest Skimmons fanfiction. At the bottom is a lyric video of the song that I was listening to while I wrote it and the song that is actually in the story. Enjoy. Note: This has been edited slightly for Blogger, this isn't exactly the same story I posted on Tumblr.

Skye wasn’t planning on spying or anything when she went into the bus while the rest of the team was in the boring looking office building, she just wanted to have some space to do some more personal projects on her laptop. And at first, she didn’t even notice anything with her headphones in and blaring her music loudly, so she just got a seat and plopped her stuff down on the table and started goofing around. She felt a bit stupid because if Jemma had been a bad guy or something, Skye would probably have been dead and would have never suspected anything as she zoned out looking at her laptop. She was so enveloped in what she was doing that she didn’t even realize what was happening just ahead of her and when her music stopped to change songs she jumped at the sound of more music.

Skye took her headphones off and looked over her laptop, from her spot on the table she had a perfect view of the lab and more importantly, what was going on inside. Skye smiled dumbly as she saw Jemma dancing in her lab coat and glasses completely unaware that someone was watching her and totally letting loose. She probably should have left but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Jemma in a private environment (Plus she was painfully adorable). So Skye, carefully and trying to alert Jemma that someone was watching her, shut her laptop and stood up to get a closer look.

Jemma looked happier and more relaxed than Skye had ever seen her as she spun around the lab table. She jumped and swung her arms, eyes closed with an empty test tube serving as her microphone as she lip synced an upbeat song;

Lights are off and the sun is finally setting.
The night sky is changing over head
It’s not just all physical
I’m the type who won’t get oh so critical
So let’s make things physical
I won’t treat you like you’re oh so typical
I want you close
I want you
I won’t treat you like you’re typical
I want you close
I want you
I won’t treat you like you’re typical

Her head banged back and forth to the rock tune as she moved back and forth, biting her lip with a huge smile on her face. It was a lot like the goofy smile that Skye had on her face as she slightly bobbed with the music and getting increasingly more excited as she watched the scientist in a light that she had never even imagined before as she appreciated how Jemma’s hair was completely covering her face in a messy pile as she rocked so unlike Simmons’ usual clean cut look.
Skye took a risk and moved even closer to the lab doors until she was basically leaning on the edges. So far, she didn’t need to be worried about Jemma seeing her since her eyes had been shut tight as she danced wildly, staring in her own little rock show. Skye decided that this was the way she would always want to remember Jemma Simmons, as a geeky rock star who danced as if no one was watching (Technically she did think that no one was watching). Skye was getting so hypnotized by this little show that she didn’t even realize that she was getting dangerously close to the button that opened the doors. So when the doors rushed open she jumped and Jemma stopped harshly, grabbing the side of the lab table with one hand and the other flew to her mouth. Her cheeks flushed bright red and she looked as if she might start crying from the embarrassment and Skye was starting to feel like a Microbe.

However, the music was still blaring, now louder than ever so Skye did the only thing she could think of; She threw her arms up, laughing and ran up to the blushing scientist. She grabbed her hands and pulled them in the air with hers, swaying back and forth to the music. Jemma stood there stiffly at first but after a while of Skye moving her arms wildly and dancing in front of her, she finally gave in, dancing much like she was before, except now she held tightly onto Skye as they rocked out like a drunk pair of rock stars. Dancing precariously around the lab equipment and falling clumsily over each other. The lip syncing phase was over and now they were both singing loudly and uncontrollably to the words of the song.

Lost in the moment, Skye grabbed Jemma’s cheeks and kissed her mid verse. Jemma paused for a second, enjoying the warmth and taste of Skye’s mouth before she pulled her hands through Skye’s hair and kissed back. They continued to dance to the song as they made out with the grace of an intoxicated pair of rock stars which was exactly how they felt, lost in the adrenaline of the dance and the euphoria of the song playing on repeat.

Jemma tensed and her head shot up. Skye looked up only to see a confused and shocked looking Fitz standing in the lab door way with a pile of paperwork that he let fall chaotically onto the floor. His arms fell weakly to his side and he didn’t even try to keep his mouth open. Skye started laughing at the expression on Fitz’s face and she laid her head on Jemma’s chest, who had also started laughing making Skye’s head bounce lightly. They had been caught, normally this might have bothered the pair but given the circumstances Skye just stood up, continuing to laugh at the ridiculous situation. She grabbed Jemma’s hand and pulled her up onto her feet, giggling and the scientist put her arms around Skye’s waist as they made their way to a more private place, passing the stunned Fitz on their way out. Skye stopped in front of his and moved her hand slowly in a Jedi sort of way and kept her face straight just long enough to say.
“You didn’t see anything”

"The Fog" A Skimmons Fanfiction

Mmkay, here's my latest little Skimmons fanfcition, this one's a little bit more angst-y than what I usually do but it's still skimmons. :) Enjoy

“Jemma? Fitz? Coulson? Ward? May? Where’d you guys go?”
The fog started getting thicker and closing in around Skye’s surroundings and the faces she was talking to just a few moments ago were disappearing along with any and all landmarks. They were all here, around her enjoying the beautiful day, Jemma had been holding her hand and the rest of the team were smiling and telling stories and then things changed so quickly and Skye couldn’t react fast enough. Now here she was, all alone with the darkening sky and the impenetrable fog sweeping in around her, she had been sitting comfortable when all the happiness of the day disappeared now she was standing rigidly, leaning forward trying to see in front of her.
She could have sworn that the trees around her were full of bright and healthy leaves but now, perhaps because of the fog, they were barren and dead looking almost as if it were in the middle of winter. And all of the loudly singing birds that were previously occupying the trees were gone also, in fact, everything seemed to have been swallowed up by the fog. All beauty, all noise and more importantly all of the people that were important to her were gone with them.
The fear was gripping her but she moved forward anyway, taking little hesitant steps in front of her. She had to find everybody, what if they were just as lost as she was? What if they were hurt? She imagined poor Jemma curled up in the desolate fog, terrified and alone. This gave her a little bit more confidence in her steps and now she was beginning to make some progress, at least she thought she was, she couldn’t really be sure. She never raised her legs very far up and kept them just above the black ground just in case any of them were laying down.
She saw the fog swirl and move in front of her and she could just make out a dark shape, it was two small to be Ward or Coulson and Simmons and Fitz were both wearing they’re white lab coats the last time she had seen them so it must have been May.
“MAY! May, I’m over here!”
The dark figure started to move away and Skye started panicking and yelling even louder for the older agent
“Melinda! Please! It’s me, Skye!”
There was still no response and Skye bolted forward in an attempt to catch up with May but as she approached where she should have been, the dark figure disappeared, making her wonder if it was even May at all. She searched around desperately, making sure that someone else was not there. Her breathe was coming in short, labored gasps now and she was feeling light headed. The fog seemed to be getting even more potent, Skye began to become aware of just how claustrophobic she was feeling and the panic of being alone with no explanation was starting to effect her judgment. She began running forward at dangerous speeds, screaming frantically for the rest of the team, all inklings of logic were gone and she could feel herself falling into a hysteria.
Through the layers and layers of wet, blinding fog she fought through, screaming at the top of her lungs until, without warning, the ground came up and she went down with a severe jolt. She coughed as mud splattered into her face and made it even harder to breathe. She wiped the mud from her mouth the best she could and then took a deep breath, trying to pull herself back together. She pushed herself up on to her elbows only to stop as she saw what was directly in front of her; A hand, a small, pale, delicate looking hand was lying limply on the ground in front of her, she recognized the little charm bracelet as Jemma’s and she immediately lurched forward to grab the hand.
She breathed a sigh of relief when she felt the touch of her girlfriend but it was short lived since Jem’s hand was horribly cold. Skye squeezed her hand and began to drag herself  on her stomach to where Jemma lay, a searing pain was ripping down her leg and she realized that she must have broken something in the fall but that was the least of her worries as she pulled herself through the mud and fog, still holding Jemma’s limp hand.
“Jemma! Baby, I’m here, don’t worry! I’ve got you, sweetie, please wake up! I’m coming. Jemma? Jem, answer me, please?!”
She got to where she was laying and put her hands on the scientist’s face but she went silent a moment later. Jemma was laying on her back, her eyes were wide open in an expression of fear and shock, but they were empty and dark, there was no more twinkle in the beautiful eyes. Her face was colorless and as cold as her hand was, Skye began tapping her cheeks, not believing what she was seeing. The tapping turned into full fledged shaking as she tried, desperately to wake the love of her life up but no matter how loudly she screamed or how hard she shook her, Jemma’s body would just fall heavily back to the muddy ground. Her screams turned into violent sobs over her body as she grasped onto her girlfriend’s lifeless body.
“Jemma wake up! You’re not dead, please wake up! Don’t leave me! I need you Jemma, stop it! Don’t leave me… I need you… jem?”
Her voice trailed off as her sobs increased as she lay, weakly over Jemma’s body. She screamed as a large hand grasped her arm painfully and started to pull her, violently away from Jemma. She fought as hard as she could to get back to her girlfriend but the harder she fought, the more painful the hand on her arm became and she screamed for him to let her go. He pulled her harshly to face him and she gasped when she saw that it was Ward. There was no reason for him to be hurting her like this, but his grasp was dead tight. His face was as dead looking as Jemma’s was, except he was alive despite the way he looked at her menacingly with dead black eyes. She panicked and struggled to get away from with a mixture of screams and sobs coming from her mouth. She just knew that he was going to kill her but she didn’t know why. Then his mouth moved for the first time.
“Skye.”
That wasn’t his voice. That’s not his voice. Was all she thought as she thrashed and kicked trying to get him away.
“Skye!”
“Skye!
Skye opened her eyes and screamed again but when she looked around it was just the bus, the fog was gone and Ward was gone. Instead she looked up and saw Jemma’s worried face looking down at her. They seemed to be on the floor.
“Sweetie, you’re okay, you fell off the bed, it was just a dream, you’re safe.”
Her voice was sweet and delicate as she smiled and lightly wiped the tears and sweat off of Skye’s face, rocking her slightly.
“She’s got a fever, get me some cold water, Fitz.”
Just like that her sweet loving voice was gone as she barked the orders like a general. Skye pulled her self closer to Jemma, breathing was still hard and she was shaking almost uncontrollably, making her weak and disoriented, but Jemma helped her by pulling her close and gently stroking her hair.
“It was cold. And there was fog everywhere… You were dead, I found you dead, you left me, why did you leave!”
Skye had begun to sob again, still in shock over what she had been through and not really sure what she was saying but Jemma just held on tighter, shushing her lightly and keeping her lips on Skye’s forehead.
“I’m here now, baby, I’m not going to leave. I promise. I promise.
Skye was just beginning to calm down when the sudden presence of a suit next to them made her jump violently. Coulson put a hand up apologetically and Skye could see from his face that he was extremely worried. She leaned back onto Jemma’s chest and let the scientist hold her gently. She could hear them talking around her and she could see the rest of the team standing in the room looking down in worry on her but she was too tired to care about them. She coughed as fluid went down her throat and shivered as the bus air hit her. She could just feel Coulson draping a blanket over her shoulders and the world began to get fuzzy again.
“What’s wrong with her, jem?
Skye could feel the vibrations in Jemma’s chest as she talked.
“I believe she’s very ill, sir. Her temperature is extremely high and she seems to be having some problems breathing. It was probably the cold environment that we just got away from, either way she’s had quite a scare from a dream but that’s not uncommon. I’m going to give her some Antibiotics and keep a close eye on her, sir.
Jemma kept talking but eventually her voice faded away and Skye was lulled to sleep knowing that she was safe in her girlfriend’s arms.

Little moments: Skimmons drabble

Okay, this is a little Skimmons drabble that I wrote just before I went to bed, it's been a busy day but I couldn't get this little scene out of my head. I'm not used to writing anything this small so I may lengthen it later but It's fine by itself as well. Enjoy! :)

Little Moments

Skye was a strong woman, she was clever, tough, and sometimes even reckless. Jemma knew this going into the relationship, however, what she didn’t know was that underneath that daring exterior, Skye was a broken little girl who just wanted to know that she was loved. What made Jemma come to this conclusion? Well, mostly it was the sides of Skye that she saw more and more during their time together. She saw it in the quiet moments when Jemma would look over and Skye would have her hand over her mouth and her eyes closed, holding back tears that came anyway. It was the few minutes before she went another field mission and she would silently put her head on the scientist’s shoulder and hold her arm just until Ward came back and then she would let go and put on a brave face. But mostly, she saw it in moments like these; In the middle of the night when Skye would sneak hesitantly into Jemma’s little bunk and burying her face in Jem’s neck and then letting the scientist put her arms around her, quietly humming the tune of a love song. Nothing was ever said during these moments but the strength of understanding between them was evident. You see, Jemma Simmons was a shy, mild mannered woman but when she was holding Skye in her arms she felt stronger and braver than she had ever felt her entire life.

Skimmons Fanfiction

Here's a little Skimmons Skye/Jemma fanfiction that I wrote, I hope that you enjoy it! NOTE: none of these characters belong to me, if they did, this ship would have become canon and long time ago.
Something Going On

Skye stood at the edge of the Bus opening equipped with a beach towel, sunscreen, a two piece bathing suit, and a huge smile. They were stopped the middle of nowhere in the desert, waiting for something, she didn’t know what it was but she really didn’t care because there was no way she was going to let this time to waste. There was no one else out there so she just walked straight forward and picked a spot about twenty feet from the Bus to set down her stuff and get comfortable. It wasn’t exactly the beach but after spending so much time in the sky, covered from the sun, she wasn’t in the position to be picky. She had just sat down and was beginning to put sunscreen on her arms when she got the feeling that someone was watching her.
Sure enough, from the opening of the Bus she saw Jemma jump and scurry to the edge and out of sight, afraid that she had overstepped her boundaries. Skye smiled, Jemma was just to adorable not to love but she also knew that she wasn’t going to ask to join her by herself without a little push.
“Jemma!”
The little scientist made her way out of the cover of the bus and out onto the boarding platform, her hands were clasped like she was nervous but she was smiling, nonetheless. Skye waved excitedly
“Why don’t you come out here and join me for some sun?”
She walked forward towards Skye and flinched as the sun hit her face and then she walked until she stood a few feet from the beach towel.
“I just came out here to see what you were up to, I didn’t mean to intrude.”
Skye laughed and pulled her knees up
“You’re not intruding on anything, silly! Why don’t you join me?”
Jemma shuffled her feet and blushed like she does in any situation that she wasn’t completely comfortable, which was basically everywhere that wasn’t the lab.
“Oh, I can’t, I havn’t got any swim wear, I’m sorry”
Jemma was shy and a little bit smitten but Skye was stubborn and highly curious to see Jemma’s skin underneath that lab coat.
“There’s no one around, just use your underwear!”
Jemma made a notion to speak again but Skye cut her off
“And we can share the towel.”
She patted a spot next to her and anticipating her next sentence
“I also have plenty of sunscreen.”
Jemma giggled and shook her head, Skye wasn’t going to give up and she was feeling that rebellious twinge in her chest that always spiked whenever Skye was around so without further argument she slipped her coat off and laid it on the ground. Skye clapped like a child and rocked back and forth
“Yay!”
Jemma smiled and laughed as well.
After she was done shedding her clothes and she was just in a modest white bra and panties she sat down next to Skye who bumped her shoulder and smiled, after a few moments of silence they both started laughing, immaturely
“I can’t believe I’m out here in my knickers! Why do you make me do these things? First the agent and now this, you’re incredibly persuasive, you”
Skye grabbed the bottle of sunscreen, still laughing lightly
“First of all, this is nothing like the agent thing, you shot him! We’re just sunbathing and secondly, I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do.”
Jemma nodded in reluctant agreement
“Still”
She looked down at herself for the first time
“I’m so pale!”
Skye gave a flirty smile and held up the bottle
“I’ve got you covered!”
Jemma jumped a little when the sunscreen touched her arm and Skye smiled as she slowly applied it to the scientists’ sun depraved arms.
“You know, I’m capable of doing that myself.”
Skye chuckled
“Yeah, but that would just rob me of the opportunity to do it for you.”
Jemma knew that she should have felt uncomfortable as Skye applied the lotion to her exposed areas but she really didn’t feel shy at all anymore and she was just enjoying the little massage circles that Skye trailed on her back as she rubbed the sunscreen on. She had never been one to enjoy the sun but if the heat entailed this, she could definitely change her mind about the sun.
Skye, on the other hand would have maintained that she was enjoying the massage even more than Jemma was, since she was the one who got to enjoy the scientists soft and delicate looking skin.  She was very pale but it didn’t look bad at all and Skye loved that her skin wasn’t tight and muscle-ly but instead smooth and enjoyable to touch. Unfortunately, Simmons didn’t nearly enough skin for Skye’s pleasure and after a few minutes she has completely protected the scientist from the sun and she sat back, still rubbing some of the lotion onto Jemma’s knee.
“D’you want me put another layer on, I mean, I don’t want to take any risks on, you know, sunburn.”
Simmons shook her head, sweetly
“No I think I’ll be fine. Your turn?”
Skye smiled widely and nodded her head.
“Do you want to start with my back?”
Jemma put a tentative hand on her slightly darker shoulder
“What about your arms?”
“I already got them”
She giggled
“Yeah but, I mean, you were kind of interrupted, better safe than sorry?”
Skye held her arms out, smiling
“You’re the scientist, Jem”
As she started applying the sun tan lotion on to the other woman’s arms she kept chilling up despite the desert heat. Jemma marveled in how absolutely gorgeous Skye’s body was; she complained about never getting any sun, however, she was still relatively dark. Also she could see the effect that the intense training was having on her lean but strong muscles that covered her body and Jemma could feel herself getting a little giddy as she strategically put the lotion on, making sure that she didn’t miss a single spot. Skye closed her eyes and let Jemma do whatever she wanted as she appreciated that Jemma’s touch was just as soft and gentle as her skin.
After it was completely certain that their skin would be protected from the sun they lay down next to each the on the beach towel with their eyes closed and smiles on their faces.
“Jemma?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m really glad you decided to join me.”
“Yeah, me too.”
Jemma reached over slightly and grabbed Skye’s hand tentatively, a little nervous to go that far but was instantly reassured when she squeezed her hand and moved over a little bit until their arms were touching.
“Skye?”
“Yeah, Jem”
“Do you think that there’s something going on between us”
Skye scooted up on her elbows and Jemma was suddenly filled with panic, she had never asked someone that so soon and she immediately became convinced that she had gone to far and Skye was about to laugh nervously and then leave her. Almost as if on instinct, her eyes began to tear up but her apologies were interrupted by a strong kiss. Her eyes widened but she didn’t have to worry because the sun was blocked by Skye’s face and it didn’t take very long before her initial shock faded and she closed her eyes and kissed back. She grunted a little when Skye pulled away, still on top of her looking down with a huge smile on her face.
“Yeah, I definitely think there’s something going on between us, Jem.”

Self-Esteem/Confidence

"Confidence is 10% hard work and 90% Delusion" -- Tina Fey

That is probably one of the most inspiring quotes ever since it basically states that I'm not confident only because I'm not delusional, it's not wonderful but I'll take it because it's accurate, applicable and Tina Fey said it and let's face it, that's all that matters. I do want to point out that I have a lack of confidence not a lack of self esteem, in fact, I'm just teeming with self esteem, if I wasn't, I wouldn't be walking around everyday in an obnoxious Captain America hoodie. And no they are NOT the same thing.

Self-Esteem- A feeling of having respect for yourself and your abilities.

Confidence- Faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective way.

I have a great sense of self esteem, you see, I respect my opinions, my rights, and my personal options as an individual and because of that, I am really aware of the need to award that same respect not only to me but also to everyone around me. You see a great lack of this in people with a lack of self esteem, however, these people generally have an abundance of confidence which is where I think that most tiffs start, in the area between respect and belief. There are good things with both of them but like most things there are a lot of negative consequences to having just one or the other. Unfortunatly thanks to whatever all the reasons that a person has more than the other, I beleive that in many cases it's nearly impossible to display both at the same time and with the same amount of merit and that's okay, the first part of loving yourself is being able to accept some of the more innevitable traits that one is born with, because some things, not all but some, you can't choose and it ends up being a mixture of environment, genetics, and chemical reactions.

Of course, that could just be the high self esteem of mine talking since I do tend to have a hightened respect for my needs and emotional whims, to bad I can't display that respect confidently but oh well, I have my whole head to express that side of my confidence and you can't have everything in life. Seriously, though, it's F****** cold outside again, how am I suposed to enjoy anything again today when I can't even get a proper breathe of fresh air without getting icesicles lodged in my lungs. Getting really sick of this up and down weather, I can have respect for my own emtional shortcomings but that's just not going to happen with the whims of weather systems, I'm just far too biased towards the euphoria that comes with warm, sunny weather that makes you burn and sweat.

I generally like to think of myself as an optomist, however, I can't in good coscience stay true to that belief because thanks to my self esteem, I am not burdened with a boatload of delusions about the world. I really am talented at separating fantasy world with the real world (Whichever I choose to stay in most of the time has no effect on whether I can separate the two worlds) and if I am confident about at least one thing, it's that we must always keep the two worlds apart, basically, It really annoys me when people don't stay in the real world and they confuse the lines between; it's disrespectful to both of them. Therefore, based on my confidence in the accuracy of my self esteem, I conclude that I am a realist, since I'm certainly not a pessimist and I am far to aware of the boundaries between real and fantasy to be a dedicated optomist.

I don't know why I am talking about such a off the wall subject today but I have just been thinking about the connection between Self esteem and confidense ever since I looked up "Tina Fey Quotes" This morning and that specific quote popped up, so, there's my superficial analysis of the difference between the two commonly confused terms.

Blind date prompt

This is a little Doctor Who/ Avengers crossover fanfiction that I got from a prompt page I found while looking for something to write, I guess it worked. The prompt was to write about two fictional characters from different movies/television/ books that go on a blind date. The characters I chose were Captain America and Captain Jack Harkness (My favorite crossover ship) Enjoy! These characters do not belong to me at all. :)

Captain Jack Harkness leaned on the counter at the elegant restaurant with a glass of scotch in his hand. He wore a Classic Harkness style only much nicer than usual, since it was a date, after all. He often enjoyed these little blind dates since he never knew who was going to walk through the door and whoever it was it almost always ended in sex, it was a win-win for a guy like Jack. The bar tender, who was definitely up to speed on Jack’s blind dates, had already prepared a romantic table in Jack’s favorite spot in the restaurant. Now was the waiting stage when Jack theorized on who exactly he was going to meet that night; Was it a man? Was it a woman? What did they do? How easy were they? Whatever the answer, he was always happy to meet a new face.
However, nothing prepared him for who was going to show up and at seven O’ clock sharp the doors opened and Jack choked on his drink, wide eyed and shocked. Captain America himself, except he wasn’t in uniform instead he wore a tux that highlighted his built body and made his blue eyes shine even brighter, as usual his blonde hair was combed back in an old fashioned, but classy style. Normally Jack is the flamboyant one who automatically rushes up to meet his date, however, this time he just stayed perched up on his stool, slightly confused, He couldn’t have possibly have been set up on a blind date with Captain America, he was good but he wasn’t that good and the people that set it up were in pretty high places but still, this was too good to be true.
Jack’s doubts were set to rest when the Captain looked around the place, spotted him and then immediately made his way over to his seat. He walked up confidently, however when he reached out his hand, Jack could see some of the shyness come through that he had heard about when it came to The Captain and social dates. It didn’t take him any longer to come to grips with what was happening, it was simple, he was going on a date with CAPTAIN FREAKING AMERICA. He jumped up to greet the man with a huge, flirty smile that made his eyes brighten up and just like that he was back to the same old Jack.
“Hello, I’m Captain Jack Harkness. Normally this is the part where I ask you what your name is and say ’Pleased to meet you’ but, I’m afraid your patriotic, blue eyed  reputation precedes you, Captain.”
He shook his hand enthusiastically and was greeted with the customary smile that people get on their face when the meet the charismatic tramp.
“Please, call me Steve.”
The waiter was already ushering the men to their table
“Well then, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Steve. It’s not everyday one gets to do fine dining with such a handsome superhero.”
They were shown to the candle-lit table in the corner and given menu’s  and Jack asked for a bottle of champagne to go with their meal.
Steve chucked at his comment
“I see your reputation is not without warrant, Captain Harkness.”
Jack was already leaning forward over the table studying the other man with a gleam in his eyes.
“I have a reputation? And please call me Jack.”
Steve took a sip of his drink.
“Yes, in fact, just before I came I was warned about your… Charming and erotic nature.” Jack laughed
“And you still came! I’m impressed!”
The Captain smiled
“Well, I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge.”
Jack was now thoroughly captivated with the super soldier
“Then why do I get the impression that I’m the one who is going to be given a challenge tonight?”
The waiter came up with a fresh bottle of champagne and took their orders, Steve ordered enough for three people at least and Jack ordered food that he could eat and keep up thorough examination of his date. The waiter (Whom Jack was already “Familiar” with) winked at jack as he passed the table obviously giving him congratulations on his current interest but Jack could tell he was also a little jealous of the Captain.
“Was he not up for the challenge?”
Steve said gesturing slightly to the dark haired waiter, smiling. Jack smiled, slightly blushing, this guy was sharp.
“Well, you know what they say.”
He chucked a little nervously.
“don’t kiss and tell.”
The rest of their meal was going on Jack’s list of best conversations, they actually had a lot in common, from being in the army to taste in music. The Captain was intelligent, quick witted and was easy to turn beat red with a comment. Jack bounced around from actual conversations that he usually never dealt with during these dates and being back just consistently trying to charm and woo the man in front of him. He was certainly a challenge, he blushed easy but his affection was difficult to gain and he stayed true to the standards of a man from the forties even though he obviously held incredibly modern viewpoints.
When asked why exactly he even agreed to go out on a blind date with all of his other responsibilities, Steve blushed again and explained
“ Well, my colleagues, Natasha and Clint, are always trying to get me back out in the dating world and apparently they both agreed that you would be an “Interesting adventure” for me, so here I am.”
Jack thought about the names and then laughed as it hit him
“Yeah I bet they did, those two, I swear. So were they wrong?”
Steve looked at him as if it were a trick question
“Well, I’m very glad that I came and didn’t chicken out, like I was about to do.”
Jack held up his hand for a toast
“So am I, Steve Rogers. So am I.”
At the end of their meal, and during a conversation about future plans, Jack tensed up as he heard the distinct whiring sound that the T.A.R.D.I.S makes when it lands and looked around quickly as Steve looked at him questionably
“Everything alright?
Jack was still looking around
“Yeah, yeah I just thought I heard-”
Then he saw him, The Doctor peeking around the kitchen door.
“Heard what?”
He looked back at the Captain in front of him
“ Um, the sound of a… friend of mine’s old ride.”
Steve didn’t get it but he shrugged it off, nonetheless and then excused himself from the table as his emergency phone beeped from his pocket, Jack said something flirty and then smiled as he walked out of the restaurant.
Jack turned around making wild shooing gestures at the wide eyed Doctor who apparently just figured out what was going on and completely ignoring the disapproving looks he was getting from the rest of the building, walked quickly to where Jack and Steve’s table was in a fit like Jack had never seen.
“Captain America! Really Jack?! You can’t flirt with Captain America!”
 Jack looked offended.
“And why not?”
“Because he’s Captain America, one of the greatest human beings in the history of Earth and you-- Well, you’re you!”
“So!”
Jack was smiling, happy that he had finally found someone that The Doctor deemed out of Captain Jack Harkness’s reach. The Doctor made an exasperated noise and sat down, defeated by insatiable sex drive of his old companion.
“Now, can you possibly leave, he’s going to be back any minute and I was hoping that I could show him around Torchwood.”
He raised his eyebrows insinuatingly. The Doctor stared at him and then said dryly
“He’s Captain America, Jack, he’s not going to sleep with you after one date.”
Jack shrugged his shoulders
“You never know.”
The Doctor stood up
“I’m pretty sure about this, jack.”
Jack was about to make a response when Steve returned, smiling, the Doctor ran forward to greet him
“Cap! My old friend, how are you?”
They didn’t shake hands and instead Steve just walked up and gave the much thinner man a hug, Jack’s mouth opened in shock.
“Wait, you two know each other?”
The Doctor smiled, one hand on Cap’s shoulder.
“Captain Rogers and I have traveled a bit together.”
Jack narrowed his eyes at the Timelord’s smug smile. However, as usual Jack had a comeback plan and he stood up excitedly, pushing himself between the Captain and the Doctor.
“Well then, Steve, since you know the Doctor, you know the T.A.R.D.I.S, How about we all take a quick trip? I know some beautiful places that would be amazing for an after dinner walk.”
Steve looked at the Doctor who was looking at Jack with an annoyed expression
“It’s up to The Doctor.”
He turned and smiled
“Of course I’ll give you guys a ride, it would be my pleasure.”
he said through slightly clenched teeth. Steve nodded excitedly
“Sounds great!”
Then before they left for the T.A.R.D.I.S he went to the counter and paid the bill. While he was at the counter The Doctor leaned over and whispered annoyed into Jack’s ear
“Just one trip, okay? I am not going to be the third wheel in your endeavor to sleep with the epitome of purity. Just one planet, that’s all because I like you guys.”
He just continued to smile and then opened his arms as Steve returned and the Doctor went ahead of them to the T.A.R.D.I.S. once they reached the doors and the Doctor was already inside Jack leaned in smoothly for a kiss which Steve politely rejected with a turn of his head and a half smile
“You’re going to have to work a little harder than that.”
Jack heard the triumphant and amused
“AHA!”
from inside the ship and Jack winked at Steve
“Well, the night’s not over yet.”
